Origin and Meaning of the Name TUMI

The name TUMI refers to the ceremonial knife of the Inca civilization, a revered symbol of knowledge, healing, and the advancement of health knowledge in Latin American culture. Beyond its historical significance, the TUMI represents the pursuit of excellence, the transmission of wisdom, and the transformative power of science to improve human health. Inspired by this powerful legacy, TUMI Oral Health positions itself as a journal that not only preserves cultural identity but also drives innovation and fosters global collaboration in oral health and dental sciences. Edited by the Latin American Society of Medical Sciences and based in Peru, the journal embraces the spirit of the TUMI—precision, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the advancement of oral health and dental sciences for the benefit of humanity.

Mission

The mission of TUMI Oral Health is to promote and disseminate rigorous, ethical, and reproducible scientific knowledge in oral health and dental sciences. The journal facilitates the communication of original research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, methodological and technical articles, case reports, and letters to the editor that contribute to clinical practice, dental public health, education, and research.

The journal encourages participation from researchers, clinicians, educators, and postgraduate students from Peru and other countries, with emphasis on methodological quality, research integrity, open science, institutional diversity, and international collaboration.

Vision

To become a leading scientific journal in Latin America, recognized for its editorial rigor, commitment to open access, and impact on the dissemination of high-quality research that contributes to the improvement of oral health at a global level. We aspire to be an academic benchmark for authors, reviewers, and readers engaged in the progress of oral health and dental sciences, guided by ethical principles, inclusiveness, and social responsibility.
